Just Bought an EV? Get Home Charging Sorted Before Delivery Day
Most dealerships hand you the keys and leave home charging to you. This page is the missing handoff: check your panel, pick the right charger, and have Level 2 charging ready in your garage — before the car comes home, or within days of it.

The delivery-week checklist
01
Check your panel — free
Send us a photo of your electrical panel (or book the assessment) and we run the load calculation: can your panel carry a charger as-is, at a reduced setting, with load management, or does it need an upgrade? The answer decides everything else — and it costs you nothing.
02
Pick the right charger
Matched to your car and your panel — not the biggest box on the shelf. Tesla, ChargePoint, and Emporia are our most-fitted; if your car came with a charger credit or a bundled unit, we'll install yours.
03
Book the install
Standard installation from $495 — charger within 10 feet of the panel, standard hardware — with your estimate shown before you book and appointments 2–7 days out.
04
Set the money up right
We configure off-peak charging on your utility's EV rate and check your rebates: PG&E's residential rebate has a 180-day application window after purchase, so delivery month is exactly when to move.
Bought used? You're exactly who this page is for
New-car buyers at least get offered a program. Used-EV buyers get nothing — no dealer bundle, no installer referral, sometimes not even a charging cable in the trunk. Roughly 31,000 used EVs change hands every month in the U.S., and every one of those owners has to figure home charging out alone. Our answer is the same checklist: free panel check, an honest charger recommendation for your car and budget, a published standard-installation price, and a booked appointment within the week.
The Level 1 reality check
Your included charging cord adds about 3–5 miles of range per hour. Level 2 adds roughly 25–45.
Do the overnight math for your commute
A 40-mile round-trip commute needs about 10–13 hours on a wall outlet to replace — every night, plugged in the moment you get home, with nothing left over for errands or a cold morning's battery preconditioning. The same miles take about 1–2 hours on Level 2. Level 1 works as a stopgap; almost nobody keeps it as the plan. If your daily driving is under ~25 miles and your car sits 12+ hours, you can take your time deciding — the panel check is free either way.
Start with your brand
Tesla
Wall Connector installs sized to your panel, Wi-Fi and app set up before we leave.
ChargePoint
Home Flex, hardwired or plug-in — the adjustable pick for any brand of EV.
Emporia
48-amp charging with energy monitoring at the friendliest hardware price we fit.
Driving something else — Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian, Chevy? The charger decision works the same way; start with the quote and we'll spec it with you.
New-owner questions
How soon before delivery should I book the install?
As soon as you have a delivery window. Appointments open 2–7 days out, and the assessment (panel check and load calculation) is easiest done before the car arrives — send us a photo of your panel and we'll run the math free. Plenty of owners book during delivery week and charge at home within days of bringing the car home.
Can I just charge from a regular wall outlet for now?
You can — that's Level 1, and it adds only about 3–5 miles of range per hour. It's a workable stopgap for short commutes, but most owners outgrow it within weeks. Level 2 adds roughly 25–45 miles per hour, which is the difference between planning your life around charging and never thinking about it.
I bought a used EV. Can you still set me up?
Absolutely — used-EV buyers are some of our favourite customers, because nobody hands you a program: no dealer bundle, sometimes not even a charging cable. We check your panel, recommend the right charger for your car and budget, install it, and set up your off-peak schedule. Everything a new-car program would do, without buying a new car.
Do I need to buy the charger before booking?
No. Book the assessment first — the load calculation sometimes changes which charger or circuit makes sense. If you've already bought one, we'll install yours; if not, we'll confirm the right model before you order, so you don't buy a 50-amp charger for a panel that will run it at 32.
Does my new EV come with a home charger?
Most EVs include a portable charging cord that works on a wall outlet (Level 1) and sometimes a 240V plug — but the fast wall-mounted unit itself is almost never in the box. A few brands run promotions that bundle installation credits; if yours did, tell us — we'll help you use it before its deadline.
