EV Charger Installation in Exeter, CA

Exeter is the foothill town on the way to Sequoia — citrus country, murals downtown, and 220 registered EVs at the end of 2024 with no local installer advertising EV work. We're about 50 minutes northwest in Clovis and cover Exeter on the same route as our Visalia work: panel assessed, permit handled, Level 2 charger installed and tested, usually within days of your quote.

What's included in every Exeter install

  • Panel assessment and load calculation before we quote
  • City of Exeter permit and approvals handled for you
  • Level 2 charger or Tesla Wall Connector, installed and tested

Standard installation from $495 in Exeter — your charger mounted within a 10-foot run of your panel, with standard hardware; most complete installs land between $750 and $2,500 depending on panel and distance. See exactly what the standard covers — and what anything beyond it costs, published the same way.

Foothill homes, older panels, honest math

Exeter's in-town homes skew older, and 100-amp panels are the norm rather than the exception — which makes the free load calculation the whole ballgame here. Many of those panels charge fine at a 32–40-amp setting or with load management; some genuinely need the upgrade. We show you the numbers and quote the cheapest path that works, before anything is scheduled.

Exeter is Southern California Edison territory. SCE's off-peak EV rates make overnight charging cheap, and SCE's own home-charging rebate programs (including Charge Ready Home for panel work) are the ones that apply to your address — we check them at quote time. PG&E's rebates, which you'll see elsewhere on this site, don't apply in Exeter.

SCE rebates in Exeter: Charge Ready Home

Exeter is Edison country, so the PG&E rebates elsewhere on this site don't apply here — but SCE's Charge Ready Home program pays toward exactly the panel and outlet work we install, and its top figure is in the same league as PG&E's. The catch is eligibility: unlike PG&E's standard rebate, this one is reserved for income-qualified households and designated disadvantaged communities.

Panel upgrade + EV outlet — up to $4,200 back if you qualify

SCE's Charge Ready Home program pays toward replacing a main panel rated under 200 amps with a 200-amp-or-larger panel, plus a dedicated 240-volt outlet within 25 feet of your off-street parking. Income-qualified households: 100% of eligible costs, up to $4,200. Households in a state-designated disadvantaged community: 50%, up to $2,100. The program pays for the electrical work — panel and outlet — not the charger itself, and a Level 2 charger must be installed within 180 days of the panel rebate. (Program terms verified Nov 5, 2026, at SCE's Charge Ready Home site.)

Panel already 200 amps? Outlet-only rebate — up to $1,000 back

If your panel can already carry a charger, Charge Ready Home pays toward the dedicated circuit and 240-volt outlet alone: up to $1,000 for income-qualified households, up to $500 in a designated disadvantaged community.

Who qualifies — income-qualified households and disadvantaged-community addresses

You must be an SCE residential customer, and qualify one of two ways: your household is income-qualified (enrolled in a program such as CalFresh, Medi-Cal, LIHEAP, SSI, or WIC, or at or below 80% of area median income), or your address sits in a state-designated disadvantaged community — parts of Tulare County qualify on address alone. Renters need the property owner's approval, and the work must be done by a licensed, bonded contractor with permits — which is how we work anyway. You can apply before, during, or up to six months after the work, while funding lasts; we help with the application when we quote.

Charging on SCE's TOU-D-PRIME rate keeps the savings going after the rebate — we set your charger's schedule for its off-peak hours during the install. Full program rules: evhome.sce.com.

Exeter EV charger questions

How much does EV charger installation cost in Exeter?

Standard installation starts at $495 — charger within 10 feet of the panel. Most complete Exeter installs run $750–$2,500; because older panels are common here, panel work is a frequent line — $1,500–$4,000 when the load calculation requires it, always quoted up front, and load management ($500–$1,000) often avoids it.

Do I need a permit for an EV charger in Exeter?

Yes — an electrical permit for the new 240V circuit (City of Exeter inside city limits, Tulare County outside). We handle the permit and the inspection as part of the install.

Do you charge extra to come out to Exeter?

No. Exeter is inside our standard service area on the Visalia route — same upfront pricing as everywhere we serve, no trip fee.
