What we see in Visalia homes
Visalia splits cleanly in two. The newer subdivisions on the north and west sides mostly run 200-amp panels — a charger install there is a straightforward new circuit. The established neighborhoods closer to downtown and Mooney Boulevard are older, and 100-amp panels show up often; those get the free load calculation and an honest answer — standard install, load-managed charger, or panel upgrade — before anyone quotes a number.
One thing Visalia homeowners should know: your electricity is Southern California Edison, not PG&E. That means SCE's time-of-use EV rates for cheap overnight charging — and SCE's own home-charging rebate programs instead of PG&E's. We set your charger's schedule for SCE's off-peak hours and check which SCE programs your address qualifies for at quote time.

SCE rebates in Visalia: Charge Ready Home
Visalia is Edison country, so the PG&E rebates elsewhere on this site don't apply here — but SCE's Charge Ready Home program pays toward exactly the panel and outlet work we install, and its top figure is in the same league as PG&E's. The catch is eligibility: unlike PG&E's standard rebate, this one is reserved for income-qualified households and designated disadvantaged communities.
Panel upgrade + EV outlet — up to $4,200 back if you qualify
SCE's Charge Ready Home program pays toward replacing a main panel rated under 200 amps with a 200-amp-or-larger panel, plus a dedicated 240-volt outlet within 25 feet of your off-street parking. Income-qualified households: 100% of eligible costs, up to $4,200. Households in a state-designated disadvantaged community: 50%, up to $2,100. The program pays for the electrical work — panel and outlet — not the charger itself, and a Level 2 charger must be installed within 180 days of the panel rebate. (Program terms verified Nov 5, 2026, at SCE's Charge Ready Home site.)
Panel already 200 amps? Outlet-only rebate — up to $1,000 back
If your panel can already carry a charger, Charge Ready Home pays toward the dedicated circuit and 240-volt outlet alone: up to $1,000 for income-qualified households, up to $500 in a designated disadvantaged community.
Who qualifies — income-qualified households and disadvantaged-community addresses
You must be an SCE residential customer, and qualify one of two ways: your household is income-qualified (enrolled in a program such as CalFresh, Medi-Cal, LIHEAP, SSI, or WIC, or at or below 80% of area median income), or your address sits in a state-designated disadvantaged community — parts of Tulare County qualify on address alone. Renters need the property owner's approval, and the work must be done by a licensed, bonded contractor with permits — which is how we work anyway. You can apply before, during, or up to six months after the work, while funding lasts; we help with the application when we quote.
Charging on SCE's TOU-D-PRIME rate keeps the savings going after the rebate — we set your charger's schedule for its off-peak hours during the install. Full program rules: evhome.sce.com.
Visalia EV charger questions
How much does EV charger installation cost in Visalia?
Standard installation starts at $495 — charger within a 10-foot run of your panel, standard hardware. Most complete Visalia installs land between $750 and $2,500 depending on panel and wiring distance; panel work, when the load calculation requires it, adds $1,500–$4,000 and is quoted up front. Our standard installation page publishes the whole structure.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger in Visalia?
Yes — a new 240V circuit needs a City of Visalia electrical permit and inspection. We pull the permit and handle the inspection as part of every install. (Unincorporated addresses just outside the city permit through Tulare County instead — we route that too.)
Which rebates apply in Visalia — PG&E or SCE?
SCE — with real money attached. Visalia is Southern California Edison territory, so PG&E's rebates don't apply here; SCE's Charge Ready Home program pays up to $4,200 toward a panel upgrade plus a 240-volt EV outlet (up to $1,000 for an outlet alone if your panel is already 200 amps) for income-qualified households and homes in designated disadvantaged communities. We check your address's eligibility when we quote, so the number you see is the number that applies to you.
